What a move actually involves
A relocation is a sequence, not a lift. The risk is rarely the vehicle - it is what happens on either side of it, and that is where the planning goes.
- Survey of both sites: access, lifts, door widths and floor loading
- Asset listing and labelling before anything is disconnected
- Anti-static packing for IT hardware, with sensitive items crated
- De-installation, transport and reinstallation in a planned order
- Packaging and debris removed once the new site is signed off
IT equipment and racks
Servers, network gear and populated racks are handled by people used to working around live infrastructure: powered down in the right order, moved on the right equipment, and reinstated to a rack layout agreed beforehand rather than improvised on the day.
Offices and contents
Workstations, storage, furniture and records move on the same plan, boxed and labelled by person or department, so that unpacking does not turn into a project of its own.
Timing around your operations
Most moves run overnight or across a weekend so the business loses as little working time as possible. Where a site has to stay partly live, the move is broken into phases and each phase is closed out before the next one starts.
