Companies with major IT infrastructures have utility and support areas known as plant rooms. What a plant room accumulates

Plant rooms take the dirt the rest of the building does not: oil mist, carbon dust, coolant residue and construction debris that was never fully cleared. Left alone it coats surfaces, blocks intakes and makes a developing fault far harder to spot.

Most of this equipment cannot simply be switched off. Work is planned against a shutdown window where one exists; where it does not, cleaning is staged, with the operating team present and isolation confirmed before anyone begins.
